Many people ask us believers, “Today, where are all your miracles?” But, here, my friend, directly before you, is a fact that seems to have fallen straight out of a book of the lives of the saints!
Let’s take a look and see how it happened. Two humble servants of the Church, two men divided by the events of history, came together and saw things eye-to-eye through the intervention of the Lord. Both of them fell asleep in the Lord in this year of 2008, both in similar circumstances, early in the morning as they said their morning prayers to God. Both of them devoted their lives to the good of Holy Mother Church and worked for its revival and reunification. After they had achieved this, peacefully, and almost simultaneously, they appeared before the throne of God as if to say to Him, “Now, that for which you sent us to the sinful world is accomplished, Lord!”

Are they blind who fail to see the hand of God in all this? Are they blind who do not marvel at this? Are they blind who doubt the rectitude and necessity of reuniting the two parts of the Church, or, rather, to be more precise in my terminology, the restoration of the earthly unity of a body that, in truth, was never divided in heaven? Are they blind who do not see that both these hierarchs, both Vladyki Laurus and Patriarch Aleksei, passed from this earth almost at the same time, after their fulfilment of the will and commandments of God? Indeed, the persistence of our ignorance of the sinfulness of the separation between us is described in the Gospel, For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened (Mark 6:52).

Emulate the example of these two men, whose lives and deeds passed directly in front of your eyes! From this day forth, any further separation between us shall be loathsome to the will of God. It shall be loathsome to the God-given UNITY that now connects the Orthodox sons and daughters of Russia throughout the world. In truth, it would be the profanation of the memory of the dearly-departed hierarchs Laurus and Aleksei. Let their memory be eternal!
